Lessons Scrooge Learned â€Å"I am not the man I was†¦Ã¢â‚¬  (Dickens 676). Those might be the most famous words spoken by Charles Dickens’ main character of â€Å"A Christmas Carol†. Scrooge was a greedy man whose life was changed by the visitations of three spirits; Past, The present, and Future. Scrooge learned why he had become greedy, how much he missed out on by avoiding Christmas, and that he was capable of becoming a compassionate person who could make a difference in the lives of others. The Spirit of Christmas Past was the first to teach Scrooge a lesson. This lesson took place in the past when as a young adult the things that happened in his life were the things that slowly led to him being a grumpy, mean and nasty old miser. All of a sudden Present had faded and was replaced with a dark figure covered in black, and it was like it had no face for all you could see were its bony skeletal fingers. Scrooge knew this was the last Spirit: The Spirit of Christmas Future, but the Future was the scariest of them all. Right away Future had taken Scrooge to his very own future, one where he would die lonely if he did not change! Scrooge was watching with intensity as women broke into his home and took his belongings as well as his bedsheets that were covering his future corpse. Scrooge was so upset, he was so full of pride that he could not see how mean he was, and now these women had taken these from Scrooge without a care. ..â€Å" If he wanted to keep ‘em after he was dead†.... (Dickens 672)...Next Future brought Scrooge to the streets, in front of his house. Scrooge and Future were standing by some of his business partners, listening to their conversation.
